Learn about all the Guinness World Records Mazatlan holds
In recent years, the port of Mazatlan has sought to establish itself internationally.
All of this has been achieved by obtaining various Guinness World Records for its outstanding achievements. How many Guinness World Records does Mazatlan hold? Currently, Mazatlan holds four Guinness World Records.
What Guinness World Records does Mazatlan hold? Mazatlan's four Guinness World Records are: World's Largest Mural, World's Largest Shrimp Cocktail, World's Largest Folk Music Band, and World's Longest Sashimi.
Each of these impressive records stands out for something, be it culture, art, or gastronomy, something that undoubtedly enhances Mazatlan's hotels in various economic and social aspects.
The first Guinness World Record Mazatlan achieved was for the largest mural in the world created by an artist.
The world's largest mural is located at the Mazatlan Convention Center. It is titled "Historic, Economic, and Tourist Development of the Sea of Cortez" and was created by Sinaloa artist Ernesto Rios Rocha.
Located outside the Mazatlan International Center, it covers an area of 1,678.43 square meters. The structure is composed of 105 steel-reinforced concrete slabs, each measuring 5 by 3 meters, assembled with millimeter precision to form a unit measuring 24.56 meters high by 68.34 meters long.
It was in 2009 that this great work of art received recognition and received the Guinness World Record for the largest mural in the world created by a single artist.
The second Guinness World Record Mazatlan earned was for the world's largest shrimp cocktail.
This Guinness World Record was awarded for preparing the world's largest shrimp cocktail, which weighed 1,701.5 kilograms and was made with ingredients such as shrimp, onion, cilantro, tomato sauce, and hot sauce.
This dish was prepared in a giant glass and took 16 hours of work to produce at the Mazatlan Convention Center. Its preparation involved 1,367 kilograms of shrimp, several liters of sauce made with onion, tomato, garlic, hot sauce, and Worcestershire sauce.
It was in 2023 that Susana Reyes (official Guinness World Record certifier) awarded Mazatlan certification for the remarkable feat of preparing the world's largest shrimp cocktail.
Mazatlan's third Guinness World Record was for the largest folk music band in the world.
In 2024, Mazatlán achieved its third Guinness World Record, this time for having formed the largest folk music band in the world, with the participation of 255 band musicians from different states.
The event took place in the city of Mazatlan on the Mazatlan seafront and was conducted by renowned Sinaloa band musician German Lizarraga, son of the legendary Cruz Lizarraga (considered the creator of the tradition of banda music).
Alfredo Arista was in charge of presenting the official Guinness World Record certification, and he was responsible for validating this astonishing new world record for Mazatlan.
The fourth Guinness World Record held by Mazatlan was for the world's longest sashimi.
This last record was recently achieved in 2025 for the preparation of the world's longest sashimi, which was cooked by 300 chefs on the Mazatlan boardwalk.
This enormous sashimi was built over 1 kilometer and was prepared with more than 19,000 pieces of tuna—19,103 slices of tuna, to be exact. This event took place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, and stretched from the Mazatlan sign to a distance of one kilometer along Avenida del Mar.
The person in charge of validating the new Guinness World Record for Mazatlan was judge Alfredo Arista Rueda, the official Guinness World Record verifier. He had to walk the entire kilometer to ensure that everything was in order and in compliance.
Without a doubt, Mazatlan continues to grow steadily both nationally and internationally, and these Guinness World Records it has achieved in recent years are proof of this.
To make your stay in the "Pearl of the Pacific" more complete, you can choose to stay at all-inclusive hotels in Mazatlan. This way, you won't have to worry about a thing, just enjoy your vacation by the beach.

Mazatlan sets a new Guinness World Record for the longest sashimi in the world
Mazatlan once again puts itself on the international map, this time by achieving a new Guinness World Record.
This new Guinness World Record is for the world's longest sashimi. This sashimi was constructed over 1 kilometer and was made with more than 19,000 pieces of tuna (19,103 slices to be exact). It's worth noting that the previous record was 5,000 slices of tuna, so the record was surpassed by a significant margin.
The event took place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, on the Mazatlan boardwalk and was organized by Canaco Servytur Mazatlan, the National Gastronomic Council of Mazatlan (CONAGAM), and Club Vatel Mazatlan Chapter, which brought together 300 chefs who prepared the dish from very early in the morning.
All of this, with the aim of highlighting and repositioning Mazatlan's gastronomic and cultural richness internationally, is worth noting that the pearl of the Pacific boasts major hotel chains in Mazatlán, and the port is also proud to boast the largest tuna fleet in Latin America.
The goal was to prepare 5,343 pieces of tuna sashimi to break the record. However, that budgeted amount fell short and was easily surpassed. A total of 19,103 tuna flakes were certified by the Guinness World Records authority, all during the first edition of Maza Fest 2025.
The event stretched from the Mazatlan sign to a kilometer along Avenida del Mar (Malecon). At 4:00 p.m., the dish assembly began. Hundreds of planks were set up to prepare the tuna dish in a linear and continuous manner (an essential requirement for achieving the new Guinness Record).
The dishes were arranged along tables set up from the Mazatlan Literature Photo Booth to Insurgentes Avenue. The setup took about two and a half hours and began with the placement of containers filled with ice, which were necessary to preserve the tuna.
First, the tuna strips were placed, then another team of people were in charge of placing the cucumber, onion, chili, sesame seeds, and finally, the traditional black sauce with lemon to give it a delicious flavor.
The event was enlivened by approximately 10 musical groups, which performed the greatest hits of regional Mexican music, ensuring that all attendees enjoyed a 100% family-friendly, festive atmosphere, and the best flavors of the port.
It's worth noting that one of the key requirements for validating the Guinness World Record was that all the sashimi had to be consumed, so the attendance of hundreds of people was necessary to achieve this prestigious achievement.
The person in charge of validating the new Guinness World Record for Mazatlan was judge Alfredo Arista Rueda, the official Guinness World Record verifier, who had to walk the entire kilometer to ensure that everything was in compliance and in order.
After confirming that it was indeed sashimi, edible, and that it could be tasted by the hundreds of attendees, he proceeded to publicly announce that Mazatlan would have a new Guinness World Record, this time in the culinary field.
"The record to break was 5,343 pieces, and I have an official number, and the official number is 19,103 pieces. Therefore, starting today, the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism of Mazatlán wants to welcome you to the Guinness World Records family." These were the words of judge Alfredo Arista Rueda when announcing the final result.
These events highlight the port's grandeur and gastronomy. If you want to enjoy your stay even more, it's best to stay at all-inclusive hotels in Mazatlan so you can try the popular tuna sashimi and many other seafood delicacies.

Mazatlan has the only seahorse farm in Mexico
One of the most fascinating marine animals is the seahorse.
This wild marine species is in danger of extinction, and as time goes by, they are even more at risk of disappearing from the seas and oceans.Mazatlan is home to the only seahorse farm in Mexico. Specifically, it's located on Isla de la Piedra, and this is the first to be registered for commercial and legal sale in Mexico.
This farm aims to raise awareness and educate the public about the importance of producing seahorses responsibly and sustainably.
This attraction is undoubtedly one of the most important in the port. Some hotels in Mazatlan are located in strategic areas, ideal for traveling to different places and experiencing amazing adventures.
The Seahorse Expedition offers a unique and unparalleled experience with seahorses. They feature a sensational tour lasting approximately 40 minutes, allowing visitors to enjoy and learn about seahorses and sustainable aquaculture.
INGENS Cultivos Marinos is a seahorse farm operating since 2000. The tour offers a passionate and detailed presentation of the life of seahorses, as well as the importance of responsible and sustainable production.
On the tour, you will learn about the difficulty of raising seahorses in captivity and how they are threatened in the wild. You will also learn about the foods they eat (a significant amount of time and space on the farm is dedicated to cultivating their live food).
You will explore the live feeding laboratories, where you will learn about the complex feeding process of these animals, which is essential for their healthy growth.
You'll also receive a complete description of seahorses and what makes them a unique species. You'll learn about the farm's history and mission, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and marine conservation.
Eliezer Zuñiga Villareal is the biologist who runs and manages this farm. He explains that this isn't an exhibition, as visitors can see and interact with the seahorses, as well as learn more about their reproduction, birth, nutrition, and development.
The biologist also mentions that the problem with seahorses is that you have to understand how to farm them, and that they have developed their own biotechnology for proper seahorse farming in captivity.
As if that weren't enough, the tour also includes a visit to the grow-out tanks, where the baby seahorses grow. The main building houses a variety of aquariums. Here, you can see seahorses at different stages of development, from juveniles to adults.
Seahorse Expedition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and has an admission fee of $350 pesos per adult and $250 pesos per child.

Mazatlan, the best tourist destination in the Pacific
In recent years, Mazatlan has positioned itself as the best tourist destination in the Pacific.
All of this is due to its booming and important tourism development, which has generated great expectations for this destination.Mazatlan was founded on May 14, 1531, by a commission sent by the Spanish conquistador Nuño de Guzman. The area was inhabited by local indigenous groups such as the Totorame, Xixime, and Tepehuane, who gave it the name it is known by today.
We can also say that Mazatlan is a name of Nahuatl origin that means "Land of Deer" or "Place of Deer." It comes from the words Mazatl, meaning "Deer," and Tlan, which refers to "A place or land of."
It's worth noting that Mazatlan is known as "The Pearl of the Pacific" because the port is one of Mexico's main beach tourist destinations on the Pacific coast, which is why the destination also has large hotel chains in Mazatlan.
The municipality of Mazatlan is located 21 kilometers south of the Tropic of Cancer, and its coastline stretches for 80 kilometers and is made up of sandy sediments. This explains the length, width, and magnitude of all its beaches.
Thanks to its great attributes and tourist attractions, such as the second-longest boardwalk in the world, the tallest natural lighthouse in the world, and the largest aquarium in Mexico and the most important in Latin America, dedicated to the Sea of Cortez, Mazatlan has positioned itself as one of Mexico's favorite tourist destinations.
One thing the port can boast about is its pleasant climate throughout the year: the maximum temperature in the hottest months of the year is around 33°C (91°F), and the minimum temperature in the coldest months is around 15°C (59°F).
That's why, whether it's spring, summer, fall, or winter, Mazatlán offers you an extremely pleasant vacation climate. If it's hot, the beach is the best option to enjoy and cool off, and if it's cold, you can relax and have fun in the heated pools at your Mazatlan hotel.
The destination has gained international recognition, both among domestic and international tourists. It is worth noting that in recent years, cruise ship arrivals have been of great importance in boosting the port's economy. In 2024 alone, Mazatlan welcomed 122 cruise ships with 470,618 passengers and 160,367 crew members, closing with a record for cruise tourism.
For 2025, Mazatlan is estimated to welcome around 143 cruise ships. This represents a 4% increase in cruise ship arrivals compared to the previous year. These arrivals strengthen the local economy with significant economic benefits in various sectors such as commerce, transportation, and tourism services.
In Mazatlan, we can highlight four important seasons of the year, during which the port experiences a greater influx of visitors: the Mazatlan International Carnival, Holy Week and Easter Week (also known as International Motorcycle Week), summer vacation, and December holidays.
It is worth noting that in 2025, the Mazatlan Carnival, known as "La Perla," was a resounding success, bringing together 1,231,725 people over the six days of the celebration. It is estimated that this generated an economic impact for the port of more than one billion pesos and a solid hotel occupancy rate of 86%.
All of this was achieved thanks to the timely organization of events and coronations, which featured world-class artists such as tenor Placido Domingo and popular Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz.
In 2026, the Mazatlan International Carnival will take place from February 12th to 17th. The goal is not only to celebrate the port's traditions but also to surpass the attendance of this last edition.
When you think of Mazatlan, the first thing that comes to mind is the beach and the ocean. And, of course, Mazatlán's beaches boast different types of sand colors and textures, but without a doubt, the sand color that stands out the most is a beautiful golden hue.
Most beaches have calm waves; however, it's worth noting that, during your vacation, it's always important to check the flags or signs posted before entering the area to avoid any incidents.
Among the biggest attractions in Mazatlan, as mentioned above, are the Malecon, the Lighthouse, and the Grand Mazatlan Aquarium, all iconic and emblematic sites that are a must-see in the port.
However, Mazatlan also offers other great attractions that you can visit during your stay in the Pearl of the Pacific, such as: the Clavadista (Diver), the Historic Center, the Farolesa (La Farolesa), the National Whale Museum (MUNBA), the 1873 Observatory, the world's largest mural, rides on the Pulmonia (a typical regional transportation system), Central Park, attending baseball games of the Venados de Mazatlan, attending soccer games of Mazatlan F.C., among many other activities you can do in the port.
Mazatlan's cuisine is extremely rich and varied. This is due to its location on the seafront, which boasts a wealth of seafood and seafood products, but also boasts a rich gastronomy with traditional dishes from different cuisines.
Among Mazatlan's most notable cuisines, we find: Seafood (ceviches, campechanas, and shrimp in various presentations), Fish (zarandeado fish and fish in various presentations), Meat (grilled beef tacos and meats prepared in various presentations), Chicken (grilled chicken and chicken prepared in various presentations).
In the port, we can also find many popular restaurants, which stand out and are dedicated to different cuisines from around the world, making Mazatlan's cuisine rich, varied, and internationally renowned.
In Mazatlan, there are three typical transportation options. The first, the quintessential family transportation option, is "La Auriga." Second, we can find the "Safari," a transportation option similar to a pulmonía, but with doors (a hybrid between a taxi and a pulmonía). And finally, the most important transportation option in Mazatlán, the traditional and historic "Pulmonia."
Pulmonias in Mazatlan are vehicles. Open-sided golf carts have become the favorite means of transportation for all visitors, both domestic and foreign tourists, who visit the port. This is because you can enjoy a tour of the entire boardwalk from end to end with good music and the fresh air of the sea breeze.
When it comes to accommodations, attractions, places to visit, food, and transportation, we can say that Mazatlan is also one of the cheapest tourist destinations in Mexico. As the legendary song "Corrado a Mazatlan" says, "Here, even a poor person feels like a millionaire, here life goes by without crying."
At night, Mazatlan's nightlife is extremely fun, varied, and entertaining, depending on the type of night out you plan. There are clubs where you can have endless fun, but if you want a more relaxing and enjoyable time, bars that offer relaxing music are your best option.
But it's not just the city where you can enjoy sensational activities or delicious food; this is because adventure options are also found and extend just a few kilometers from Mazatlan.
Among the towns and places near Mazatlan, the following stand out: Villa Union (where one of the most popular seafood restaurants in the region is located, “El Cuchupetas”), El Quelite (here you will find another popular restaurant in the region, “El Mesón de los Lauréanos”), La Noria (here you can find an amazing winery, “Los Osuna,” and see how agave (tequila) is distilled).
Also near Mazatlan is La Isla de la Piedra, an excellent place to relax, eat, and spend some time in complete tranquility on the beach. Likewise, we can find Las Labradas, the first archaeological site open to the public in Sinaloa.
Mazatlan's geographic location is undoubtedly privileged. The best route to Mazatlan is by road. The Gulf-Pacific Highway is Mexico's most important commercial and tourist corridor, prioritizing the northern part of the country.
If you're planning your next vacation, an excellent recommendation is to stay at all-inclusive hotels in Mazatlan. This way, you can enjoy free food, drinks, shows, and activities throughout your stay.
